Our school

Christian education since 1857

The founders of St. John's congregation realized right away the importance of a Christian education for their children. In 1857, two years after the founding of the congregation, a building that housed both the church and school was constructed. Today the school has a staff of one part-time and three full-time teachers, classrooms and a large gym facility completed in 2011, and the strong support of St. John's Lutheran Church.

St. John School offers a Christian, Lutheran elementary education that is permeated with God's Word. We also offer a school that is structured around Wisconsin State Standards and provides a progressive curriculum in all subject materials.

St. John Lutheran School

St. John Lutheran School is a member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) and Lakeshore Lutheran Schools, serving PreK through 8th grade since 1857. Families choose St. John for a caring Christian environment, highly trained teachers, strong student culture, and a proven multi-grade classroom model — along with athletic and musical opportunities, a large gym facility, before and after school care, and a 3- and 4-year-old preschool program offered 2-5 days a week.

Life at St. John

Multi-grade classrooms

Since its inception, St. John Lutheran School has used a multi-grade classroom structure. Research shows no educational difference in academic achievement versus single-grade classrooms, with positives that include increased self-esteem, increased pro-social behavior, enriched personal relationships, increased personal responsibility, a decline in discipline problems, and more positive attitudes toward school.

Preschool (ages 3–4)

A 3- and 4-year-old preschool program offered 2–5 days a week, alongside before and after school care for school families.
